Professor Chris O'Neill
Chris is Professor of Reproductive and Developmental Medicine, Department of Medicine, Sydney University and is Head of the Human Reproduction Unit within the Kolling Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital. He is also a member of the Charles Perkins Center, the Department of Physiology, and the Bosch Institute within the University of Sydney. He is immediate past President of the Society for Reproductive Biology.
Chris pioneered many aspects of modern assisted reproductive technologies and his primary research interests now focus on the processes that govern normal cell growth and differentiation in the embryo. This involves the investigation of how the normal processes of gene expression occur in an ordered fashion to allow the numerous cell types that go to make up the body to form in the correct place and time during development. He investigates how disturbances to these processes can lead to reduced fertility and influence post-natal homeostasis.
